This December…….. Have a more conscious Christmas!
A 2021 update to last year’s post, as the season of giving rolls around again, here are a few tips and reminders to make sure you gift our planet something which will keep on giving…
- Ask people what they actually want – a gift that can be used for a long time to come is better than an impulse buy because you panicked! Even at this stage in the month, ask what people would like to receive and save yourself the Christmas Eve stress… If they don’t ask for anything, a thoughtful or creative gift, such as homemade gingerbread, would make a lovely waste-free present.
- Plantable cards – for a card and gift in one, send plantable Christmas cards which can be planted and grown into wildflower seeds to remind them of you all year round. Try Paperchase (https://www.paperchase.com/en_gb/merry-christmas-red-floral-seed-card.html) or independent businesses for added environmental benefits (https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/841383466/plantable-seed-christmas?click_key=5a513a3b24956912a08abd2c65320e0a5f870984%3A841383466&click_sum=7f514f58&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=plantable+card&ref=sr_gallery-1-3&frs=1&bes=1&sts=1). ๐ฟ
- If the recent winter storms have left your garden looking a little worse for wear, collect any debris and material and weave it into a natural wreath for your front door. After the festivities, the wreath can simply be added to your compost heap, helping to recycle materials and nutrients.
As the festive season approaches, no matter what or if you celebrate, embrace a more natural, less wasteful celebration and enjoy the season with less worry and more time to care for those you love and the planet we love. Merry Christmas and a Happy sustainable New Year! ๐ ๐คถ
